(Recommended Standard 232C) протокол (интерфейс) RS-232Cстандарт EIA, введённый в августе 1969 г. (известен также как интерфейс CCITT V.24, а после 1991 г. называется EIA/TIA-232-E) на асинхронную последовательную передачу данных между компьютером и периферией. Передатчик одного устройства соединяется с приёмником другого и наоборот. Для управления подключённым устройством могут быть использованы дополнительные линии порта RS-232C или специальные символы, добавляемые к передаваемым данным.
